Reduce traffic and save bandwidth on phones
When your are subscribed to costly data plans where operators charge you for every single killobyte, you would often want to optimize your browser for less bandwidth usage without affecting your browsing experience. There are a couple of tweaks and tips that you can try and see which one suits your needs.
1. Start using opera mini. Opera mini is one of the most used phone web browsers. You can use it with image quality set to low or completely disabled, the webpages are compressed upto 7O% so you save a lot of traffic. Make sure not to use opera mobile but opera mini.
2. Use caching: Phone browsers limit cache size because of limited space. Increase it or set it to maximum for faster browsing.
3. Disable images: If you are a reader like me, consider disabling images. Images aquire a huge percentage of page size.
4. Download instead of stream: Download images and videos instead of streaming online. Streaming generally involves greater bandwidth compared to downloading. Also, you get the file on disk so you can watch them later.
5. Avoid torrents: There are some torrent clients for handheld devices but you should avoid them. Instead of directly downloading torrents, use torrent fetching services like torrific.com''
