Although Facebook had started offering email services to it's users since November 2010, on Friday, all users were silently forced over to @facebook.com email address which now shows up on timeline in place of original email address. According to Facebook, the change was brought to make contract information of all users consistent throughout the website.
While you may be happy with your brand new email address, many are not. How can a social networking website decide which email address I want to be known by?
Imagine all your personal email messages going through Facebook and showing up in Facebook inbox. Yes, that's how Facebook email address works. All email messages sent to a user's Facebook address are displayed in their message inbox.
There are other reasons why you'd want to get rid of the Facebook email address quietly assigned to your and displayed on your timeline. Email address becomes part of one's identity on the internet over a long time so if you have Facebook friends from personal and professional circle(duh? everybody does), you'd certainly want to stick to a better email providers like Hotmail or Google mail instead of letting "those people" reach you via a Facebook address.
Users can still revert back to original email address by editing account settings. Just go to account settings and edit your contact information to hide the Facebook email address and optionally display your original one.
