Nmap 6 has been released( May 21, 2012) after being actively developed for 3 years. Nmap v5 was released in 2009 and developers have been working since then, to provide us an even better and refined version of Nmap.
Nmap version 6 comes with lots of enhancements, customizations and features. Six most noticed feature updates included in this version are:
1. A more powerful Nmap Scripting Engine.
2. Better web scanning.
3. Full IPv6 support.
4. New NPing packet prober.
5. Better GUI and result viewer (Zenmap).
6. Faster and more efficient scanning.
