Delhi HC orders TRAI, asks to remove 200 SMS per day limit

3 comments:
On 27th September 2011, TRAI ordered all GSM and CDMA service provides to limit number of outgoing SMS to only 100. After countless complaints and much dissension among customers, this limit was further increased to 200 per day in November last year.

This daily cap was introduced to prevent message centers and people from sending too many spam, marketing and promotional messages. Although it proved useful in it's purpose, it also restricted personal communication among people.

If you're one of the unhappy victims of this annoying restriction, you can now feel relieved. A Delhi High Court order today asked TRAI to remove this limit for general users while uphold the daily cap for marketing and non-personal messaging. This is a good news for many of us who missed sending mass SMS to friends and family. Order has been passed and implementation should be realized shortly which means once again we will be able to subscribe to unlimited message packs and send as many SMSes as we wish.

TRAI puts restriction on number of outgoing SMSes

No comments:
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented a new restriction on maximum number of outgoing SMSes, in an effort to reduce mass spam SMSes being everyday by various firms and institutions in India. The maximum number of outgoing SMSes is now limited to 100 per day for prepaid users and 3000 per month for postpaid users. So far it sounds good but it's not. The problem is in the way they have implemented this restriction, this new rule is applicable not only to mass spam senders but also applicable to each and every single phone user in India. Many of us have huge friend circle and we can easily cross this limit of 100 SMSes in a day. With this new restriction in place we will have to switch to alternative texting solutions like blackberry's BBM. What do you think, should this restriction be removed ?
