Google is promoting G+ on TV for the first time - video

No comments:
Google's first video commercial for promotion of Google plus.
The ad demonstrates how one can easily organize different class of people into personalized circles. It also shows the very popular Hangout feature.
Google plus already has around 10 million people and is expanding enormously everyday. So far, a large proportion of it's userbase includes webmasters and tech enthusiasts. With television ads, it could become more popular among non-technical people like housewives, businessmen etc. I'm sure everyone would fall for the Hangouts feature.
Do check out this video.

Google map now provides weather information too

No comments:
If you're planning to travel to an unfamiliar city, chances are that you look up Google maps to get a good idea of it.
To provide you an even more clearer picture of a place, Google has added weather to Google maps. This was a much awaited feature I think, I'm glad that it's finally made available to us. Thanks to Google's ever growing feature list.

Now this new feature can be accessed by clicking on the option "weather" available at the top right corner of Google map view. It not just displays current climatic conditions but, on further zooming, also display weather forecasts for the new five days making it even more useful for all those folks planning their future trips.

These forecasts and weather details are fetched from weather.com, that google is collaborating with.

Now Play games on google plus

No comments:
With a stunning growth rate and exciting new features, google plus has established itself pretty well though it's still in early test phase. Google has recently planned to roll out games and most probably, they would incorporate games as services too. A majority of users on facebook stay active just because of games like farmville, cityville etc. With introduction of games on google plus, users would surely think of making a transition to google plus, though in small numbers. Initial games include the popular "Angry Birds," "Bejeweled Blitz" and "Zynga Poker." What would be the impact of games on google's userbase ? Would user activity increase or would it make google plus an even more closer copy of facebook.

Invite friends to google plus by sending them a link

No comments:
Remembering email addresses of all your contacts is not at all feasible, although one can find it in their contact list but that would be time consuming as one would have to individually find emails and paste then in google plus invitation form. Apart from that, many of our friends are connected to us through non google sites like msn, facebook etc.

Google has now realised that sending invites by typing in the email addresses of your friends individually is not as easy as sending them a link that they can click on to join Google plus and hence, they will be adding this feature in a couple of days. When you will click on invite button, you'll be presented with a link that you can send to your friends or post on your blog. Initially, 150 persons would be allowed to join google plus via your invitation link. Isn't this method of inviting friends easier ?

Search for public posts on google plus

No comments:

Google plus has grown popular tremendously since it's very first day. As more and more users are getting involved in the process of sharing stuffs on G+, we feel the need of a search tool that would allow us to search for posts, news, links, profiles etc
Surprisingly enough, google plus doesn't offer a search tool even though it's a google product (pun intended).
To our relief, a third party developer has come out with a very efficient,multi-lingual and useful search tool for google plus, thus allowing us to search through public content and profiles on google plus via a web form. It even offers an android app, firefox and chrome extension.
I've been using it to track social activities related to my blog.

Google came into the world of social networking like a bang and since it's very first day of launch, web enthusiasts, from around the globe, have been curious about the new features that keep popping up from time to time.

What's new in google plus is a page, offered and managed by google, that publishes about new google plus features as they keep rolling. The posts on that page are small informative release notes generally accompanied with video demonstrations. It's nice to have a centralized page like this because it would help users in keeping track of new features and thus compare google plus with other social networks. What do you think ? Google plus crosses phenomenal 20 million users

No comments:

Google plus, the new social networking site by google, has been growing tremendously. The website was launched less than a month ago and suprisingly enough, it's userbase has crossed a phenomenal figure of 20 million and the website is not even open to all. ( As you may already know, to get into google plus people need to get invited by another plus users. )

The stats were calculated by ComScore, leading statical data providing firm. With such a growth rate, Google plus is certainly appearing as a threat to facebook and twitter as both of them had gained 10 million userbase in over two years. It still has a long way to go, lets hope that google plus keeps rolling new and unique features, it already has it's back supported by the search giant.

Gmail adds support for multiple calls

No comments:
Gmail multiple call feature

We have all admired Gmail's excellent communication features like voice, video calling and the recently introduced phone calling. Earlier, we could make or receive a single call at a time but today Gmail adds support for multiple calls. Don't confuse multiple calls with call conferencing. Multiple calling feature will just let you put a call on hold while you talk on another call. The mechanism behind this is pretty simple - you are indulged in call, somebody else calls you, you are prompted with options to accept or reject the call, if you happen to accept the call then previously active call will be automatically put on hold while you talk on the new call. ( Simple right ? ). You can resume or put on hold any call at any time.

This was a much awaited feature and I'm glad that it's finally introduced in Gmail.

Gmail motion - a nextGen initiative by Gmail team

No comments:

In 1874 the QWERTY keyboard was invented. In 1963, the world was introduced to the mouse. Some 50 years later, we’ve seen the advent of microprocessors, high resolution webcams, and spatial tracking technology. But all the while we’ve continued to use outdated technology to interact with devices. Why?

This is a question that we’ve been thinking about a lot at Google, and we’re excited to introduce our first attempts at next generation human computer interaction: Gmail Motion. Gmail Motion allows you to control Gmail — composing and replying to messages — using your body.

To use Gmail Motion, you’ll need a computer with a built-in webcam. Once you enable Gmail Motion from the Settings page, Gmail will enable your webcam when you sign in and automatically recognize any one of the detected movements via a spatial tracking algorithm. We designed the movements to be easy and intuitive to perform and consulted with top experts in kinestetics and body movement in devising them.

We’ve been testing Gmail Motion with Googlers over the last few months and have been really excited about the feedback we’ve been hearing. We’ve also done some internal tests to measure productivity improvements and found an average 14% increase in email composition speed and 12% reduction in average time in inbox. With Gmail Motion, Googlers were able to get more done and get in and out of their inboxes more quickly.

To use Gmail Motion, you’ll need the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox 3.5+ and a built-in webcam. If it’s not already enabled on your account, sit tight — we’ll be making it available to everyone over the next day or so.

For more information, visit gmail.com/motion.

Picasa's storage limit explained.

13 comments:

Picasa is an amazing service by google that lets us share and store images online.
Google says that images within the limit of 800 pixels and videos of length 10 minutes or shorter wouldn't be counted towards the one GB limit of Picasa webspace available per account. For many of us, this probably means google has provided us with unlimited image / video storage space which is pretty cool. Isn't it ?
